Whilst the Programme is still ongoing in Public Secondary Schools across 5 LGAs, it was exceptional to see the determination of students in Government Secondary School – Bassan, Obubra LGA as they set out to implement their Leadership Project of “Building a School Assembly Stand”.
The drive came in a bid to transform holding school assembly on a bare ground into a more organized setting and amazingly, these students have been able to take the necessary leadership actions ahead of their resumption back to school. Part of the activities carried out to make the project a success included fundraising, sourcing sand and other raw materials needed for the project, repair of the bad rod (flag pole) which was at the time without a flag and further mounting the flag, mobilizing blocks needed for the job aside the purchase of cement, engaging labourers in building and painting of the assembly stand, all of which revealed the students’ ability to work as a team.
To a large extent, the outlined activities were done with support from our trained Mentor-Facilitator (Corper Uchechukwu Favour), Teacher (Obi Simon) and parents.
While this happened in one of the programme schools, students in the other schools took advantage of the holiday to align their Leadership project initiatives which therefore keeps them ready to kick-off implementation from the first week of their resumption to school.
