The month of September started on a learning note for our fellows who are constantly gaining immense value from the critical knowledge derived from all the various modules and the introduction of a new such as; Running for Office and we introduced a new module on election management.
The various sessions so far have opened the fellows up to new learnings and Undoubtedly, value has been derived from it. To begin the virtual training sessions for the month, we kicked off with a session on “Party Politics” which was delivered by Prof Ikechi Mgbeoji, Crafting Your Campaign Strategy/Managing your Campaign was Facilitated by Mr Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, Planning your Campaign by Mr Lanre Osibona, Financing Your Campaign delivered by Barr. Mike Aniah and a final session on Mobilizing and Engaging Your Stakeholders delivered by Mr Wale Irokosu.
To conclude the module, we had a fireside chat on the topic “A Peek Into The Backoffice” which had panellists such as Mr Francis Adebayo, Dr. Joseph Edet, Mr Clement Antony Vigiliou, Chief Mrs Shimite Bello, and was Moderated by Mr William Etim Bassey, who shared from their wealth of knowledge and answered the questions of the fellows who had the opportunity to learn first-hand, lessons from the field and advise for Fellows as they work their campaign strategies.
Feedback Highlights from Fellows
“Courtesy of this sub-module I have resolved to start preparations by getting more closer to my constituency. I have also started studying and paying very close attention to the political dynamics. And have resolved to get involved in the political activity in a very observatory manner ..”
During the month most of the fellows began their mentorship journey; the Mentorship/Intern-shadow phase of the fellowship is an integral part of the programme that gives fellows an opportunity to be mentored by the technical support staff of credible politicians, past and current Political Leaders across Africa and all levels of government. This Phase allows fellows to engage in a one-on-one mentorship/Internship with their selected mentor.
We started a new module in the last week of the month on “Election Management” with the first session on “Pre-elections which was facilitated by Mr Francis Adebayo.
We are optimistic about what this months holds for each of our fellows who will be exposed to more context necessary to facilitate their emergence as political leaders.
