EMERGING POLITICAL LEADERS FELLOWSHIP – SEPTEMBER RECAP

September was not just another month for Fellows of the Emerging Political Leaders Fellowship. It became a turning point in their journey.

The Fellows deepened their learning through the fifth module on Sustainable Politics, a theme that challenged them to reimagine what long-term change in Nigeria could look like. Guided by our expert faculty, every session opened a window into practical strategies for building political systems that endure.

The month ended with a Fireside Chat Panel on the theme “Towards Building a Sustainable Nigeria: Strategies and Frameworks for Ensuring Change.” During the conversation, Fellows were reminded that creating change is not just about holding office, but about building frameworks that will outlive them.

Beyond the classroom, the Fellows brought their voices into the public space. On September 20, they hosted the Green Circle Conversation on X-Space with the theme “Youth, Fear and Freedom: Reclaiming Our Rights to Speak in a Democratic Nigeria.” Panelists such as Bright Okuta, Mubarak Mijinyawa, Mutari Liman, Ruth Ngoka and Yasir Ibrahim helped power a lively and engaging session where young Nigerians demanded their place in shaping democracy. It was not just another dialogue, it was civic engagement in action.

Across Nigeria, Fellows also pushed forward with their community projects. From raising awareness to sparking local conversations and driving civic participation, they continued to prove that leadership is best shown in service. As they began drafting their Capstone Project Policy Documents, they drew closer to leaving behind policy blueprints that could guide real change in governance.

Their voices also found expression through the EPLF Blog where many Fellows published articles on politics, governance and civic duty. These pieces are not just reflections, they are seeds of influence being planted in the minds of readers across the country.

Now, the focus shifts to November when all 25 Fellows will gather in Abuja for the Residential Bootcamp. This will be the first time they meet in one space to network, immerse themselves in simulations, participate in institutional visits, and engage in high-level conversations with seasoned leaders. It promises to be a defining moment in their journey.

The Alumni Network also came alive in September. In collaboration with the Plateau Emerging Leaders Fellowship, the Alumni launched a Lecture Series. The first session was led by Tukura John Daniel, an EPLF 2022 Alumnus, on the topic “Dynamics of Politics.” This was a clear reminder that once a Fellow, always a changemaker.

The month of September reinforced one important truth: the future of Nigeria’s politics is not a distant idea. It is already taking shape in the bold steps and brave voices of these emerging leaders.
