I Have a Home

I have a home,
Although clothed in lamentation,
Shielded with rejection,
I still consider it a home.

I have a home,
Although aloofly mannered in communication,
Unfair in association,
Still, a home it is.

I have a home,
Although bartered by tribalism,
Shattered by injustice,
I still consider it a home.

I have a home,
Although drowned by the tides of corruption,
Enveloped by the shadows of insecurity,
Still, a home it is.

I have a home,
Although, with extirpated leadership,
Malnourished democracy,
I still consider it a home.

I have a home,
Although with impoverished systems,
Dilapidated structures,
Still, a home it is.

Nigeria is my home,
Although she may not be as yet what you and I long it to be,
How far we’ve come is good enough to be celebrated.
The labour of our heroes past isn’t in vain.

The colour green is the colour of life. It represents growth – fertility.
The colour white is the colour of innocence. It represents purity – cleanliness.
Today, I say hearty cheers to my home, Nigeria.
Believing that someday soon, the representation of these colours will be our reality.

I believe in Nigeria
